Cyber Monday sales in Second Life!

Hey guys – I hope you have been taking advantage of all of the sales in Second Life! I decided to show you what I got today (so far). Today I am featuring items from The Annex and Exposeur Poses.

Cyber Monday 2015 - The Annex - Exposeur - Second Life

According to the notecard that I received this morning, “Today has the lowest prices ever at Exposeur, a whopping 75% off ALL props and poses, plus L$25 gachas!  This is the perfect time to stock up on everything you’ll need or want for awesome photos!  “

I found out about The Annex from Flickr – a number of stores have items out for 50% off. Something about the dress made me want to get it – the mermaid tail, perhaps?

If you miss out on Cyber Monday finds, you always have the 12 days of Savings – an initiative by Linden Lab and some of the top selling merchants on marketplace to bring us all of the good deals!

The influence of Flickr on Second Life Blogging

As I stand here watching my friend cook her pasta from [Life2], I think about what I have to blog about next. Earlier today I followed at least 100 more people on Flickr, and faved a lot of photos that I liked. I do this every so often, but lately I feel that if I don’t do this, then it will have an adverse effect on promoting my blog. As anyone with a blog knows, being active on Flickr has become vital to getting desired blogger spots in Second Life stores and events. What does it mean to be active?

Once, being active simply meant if you had a Flickr account. Lately, it means having at least 500 views and the number of faves to go along with them. A good ratio to aim for is to have at least 1 fave for every 10 views. As for 500 views, I personally feel like this is a lot to obtain for someone who is not used to hardcore promotion on Flickr, or doesn’t have many active Flickr users following them. Morgie has written a terrific guideline to help all of us who are struggling to get the push that we need to qualify for the latest requirement for SL bloggers.

Why do I say latest requirement? As I pointed out in Sophee’s post on the relevance of SL blogs with the emphasis on Flickr as of late, everyone is always looking for ways to promote their items or their events.

I think the emphasis on Flickr photos will favor those who tend to be better at photo composition and post-processing than those who are not. In addition, I think those who set aside time to place their photos in many groups and follow many active people (in the hopes that they will return the favor) will also be favored. For people who use Flickr to simply host their photos, it may be harder to get the views. This may cause stress to bloggers because they will ask themselves any of these questions:

1. If I don’t make artsy photos, does that make me a bad blogger?
2. If people don’t view/fave my photos, does that make me less of a blogger?
3. Am I only as good as my views or faves in the eyes of designers/event coordinators?
4. In order to be a good blogger, do I also have to be a good photographer?

Do you see how these questions (and their answers) focus on only one aspect of what goes into a blog?

What I think bloggers need to understand is this: Your blog is not only your personal space, but it’s also your personal brand. The people who are asking all of these requirements don’t necessarily care about your brand – it’s about what you can do for them to help get their message out there. You have to position yourself so when the next big trend to promoting for an event/store comes around, that it won’t be such a drastic change for you.

With regard with Flickr, every blogger should already be on Flickr, posting pics, following people, and have a list of favorite photos. I will even go as far as saying that your blog should have a link to your Flickr somehow. So now, with the latest trend focusing on Flickr, it is just a matter of building on what you have already started.

Still can’t meet those requirements?

What’s the worst thing that will happen if you don’t get accepted to a bloggers’ group? That you won’t be able to blog their items? Sure you can. It may mean that you will have to pay for it if you are styling an outfit, but most want to see how you use their products before applying to their group.

As bloggers, we will always look for ways to promote our blog. This may or may not be influenced by current trends in promotion. But always remember why you started blogging in the first place, and try not to let some people’s preferences for promotion dictate your entire blogging experience.

Moonlight tryst in the garden

Away! away! for I will fly to thee,
Not charioted by Bacchus and his pards,
But on the viewless wings of Poesy,
Though the dull brain perplexes and retards:
Already with thee! tender is the night,
And haply the Queen-Moon is on her throne,
Cluster’d around by all her starry Fays;
But here there is no light,
Save what from heaven is with the breezes blown
Through verdurous glooms and winding mossy ways.

Baking Lamingtons with Moni

Hey guys! I just finished cleaning up from the gingerbread cookies that I made earlier. The next item I will be featuring are the lamington cookies from Second Spaces. Now, I have to say that I have never heard of lamingtons before. Apparently, they are popular in Australia.
Second Spaces - Multicultural Menu Event - Second Life

According to the recipe on allrecipes.com,  the cakes are made with coconut. I’m not used to too many sweets made with coconut – German chocolate cake and pineapple coconut cake are the ones that I know. However, the coconut for this recipe should be dried, or desiccant coconut. Before blogging this, I did not realize that silica gel is used as a desiccant, even though it’s found EVERYWHERE. I never put the two and two together. Don’t worry – there is none of that in these cakes ^^

This is the finished product, all boxed up and ready to go!

Hmm…the Arcade starts today. Maybe I can make some quick Lindens selling lamingtons so that I can play the gacha machines? ^^

I would love to hear from people who have tried these treats before – how good are they?

How to make gingerbread cookies in Second Life

Hey guys! I’m back and in the kitchen, ready to do my next segment on the foods from the Multicultural Menu event. This time I will be making gingerbread cookies from Chimeric Arts.

Chimera Arts - Multicultural Menu Event - Second Life

I was fortunate to be able to use my boss’s kitchen in her Maven home to cook some of these foods that I’m getting. So, right now I have the box of cookies from Chimeric Arts. I like how the instructions are pretty straightforward. 6 cookies in all, and even shows you what the individual cookies will look like while you decorate them.

After opening the box, you see 6 cookies – 3 boy cookies, and 3 girl cookies. When you click one, it goes into your inventory, and it disappears from the box. I took out 1 boy and 1 girl cookie. My original intention was to decorate one of each, but decorating the boy cookie was very involved (in a good way!), so I was satisfied with the one that I did.

This is what the cookie looks like when I rezzed it back onto the table. It looks cute, right? So what you do is click the arrow next to each category, and you will see a number of options appear on your cookie. Some categories have many options, like the nose. I felt it had a multitude of options, and I had a hard time making up my mind on what my gingerbread man should have ^^

Dinner party for 3

After receiving the first food delivery from BluPrintz for the Multicultural Menu event, I realized that I would need some…assistance in trying all of these foods. Hey – I’m both a model and a shopaholic. It would be financially devastating to me to gain 20 pounds in a week. But what a way to go, right?

My next food delivery was from Soul Mates. I actually had gotten two deliveries, but the first one seemed to have disappeared? It was right after I got back from my forced departure from Second Life, so anything could had happened to that package.

I made a few phone calls. Most people were not home, being it was Friday night and all. I know they would kick themselves after paying for a meal to get a voicemail saying, “Free gourmet meal at my place – want to come?” Wouldn’t you? You could use that money to buy another pair of shoes that you don’t need.

I managed to catch my two friends Isabelle and Kimi and got them to come over. Isabelle is an up-and coming machinima artist who specializes in… mature work, and Kimi is a woman of many talents. Right now she is working on a book on dating, and she promised that I would have first crack at editing it when she is finished. Both of them asked me, “What’s the dress code?”

Decisions, decisions – what to eat first?

Don’t you hate it when you have so much food in front of you, and you don’t know where to start? That’s how I feel when I look at this spread in front of me from BluPrintz. This Asian – themed cuisine for the Multicultural Menu event reminds me of things you would see in a Chinese bakery. My friend used to take me to them, and there were so many interesting things that I never knew what to get. So I would leave empty handed for the most part.

I ended up trying the onigiri first. They looked the most interesting, being made of rice and seaweed (nori). Plus, I could kinda tell what they were made of – I’ve had sushi rolls before. Suppose if I didn’t like the buns? Then that would be getting off to a bad start, and even if the other food items were good, I would still remember the bad one.

As I sample the buns, I realize that I may need some reinforcements for trying out this food – can’t let this food go to waste, right?

The Multicultural Menu Event – Coming Soon!

The time has finally come where Second Life residents can choose from a variety of foods to chow down in style. You guessed it – it’s time for the Multicultural Menu Event!  With six different cuisines to choose from,  there is definitely food for even the pickiest eater.

North America - The Multicultural Menu Event - Second Life

I will be serving as one of the food critics for North American cuisine. That doesn’t mean that I won’t have something to say about South American, Asian, European, Mediterranean, and South Pacific cuisines. The two lovely head chefs on either side of me represent the sponsors for the North American menu. Cortez Brandriss makes the food from [free bird], and Gretchen Wienerschnitzel (distorteddreams) makes the food from [Fetch] .

You will be able to visit soon – June 1st is right around the corner! Can’t make it in on the first day? Don’t worry because you have until June 21st to buy all of the goodies. You can check out the previews on Flickr, and also you can follow my blog to check out my reviews for these foods.

Until next time guys! ^^

Care for a Midnight Snack?

…and chat? I’ve been thinking about my eyes lately.  I rarely credit my eyes because I wear eyes from a store that closed a long time ago. Sometimes I’m glad because it means that no one  (or few people ) will have them, and then it annoys me because you would think after several years, I would be able to find an “updated” pair of eyes. You can check out my last post if you want to see my regular eyes.

I did a post a while back when I was actively looking for eyes. I decided not to make a change. Recently I went looking and found IKON Promise Eyes. I spent a while looking in the store for not only the type of eyes, but the color of eyes. After some time I found that I really liked the Industrial and Nymph eyes. Here is a close up of them both:

I think the blueness of the Nymph eyes matches my old eyes the closest, and the mixture of colors in Industrial gives it the darker look that the other eyes have (at least to me). But the latter makes my eyes look more green than blue (it looks to be a combination of blue, green, and a hint of brown), so I am not sure if I will keep these eyes.

What do you guys think? What are some of your favorite stores for eyes? Feel free to leave me a comment! ^^
