Are Perceptions Reality: How people perceive us in Second Life

I read a blog post by Zivaah Darling several days ago. She talked about how some people perceived her in Second Life. You can read about it here. She then asked proposed this question:

Now the major question is; what would you do?

Change your personality to become friends or seek people more open to accept you the way you are?

Now, this reminds me of a RP post I did a while back (before I came to SL) entitled “Are Perceptions Reality?” And the take home message was yes, it can be. If people perceive you a certain way, it can significantly affect you and your lifestyle.

This month’s fashion recap at Ghee

Hey – I’m back guys! I got my computer earlier today, and everything seems to be in tip-top shape. Now, on to the fashion!

Ghee has had a lot of nice items this month that I did not get a chance to tell you about.

Ghee - second Life

On the left I am wearing the Ghee Scheherazade top and pants that was recently at the Instruments. I looked up the name “Scheherazade” and according to Wikipedia, she was legendary Arabic queen and the storyteller of One Thousand and One Nights.
I have on the shoes as well, and you will need Slink mid foot in order to wear them.

The Deidre dress, shoes, and necklace in burgundy is ideal if you want a classic vintage look. Deidre comes in 5 colors, and you can also color change the ribbon on the necklace to go with your dress. You can see that I am wearing a bracelet – that is actually the necklace resized. You can try that with just about any necklace that is able to be modified.

Since both of these creations were at events that recently ended, they should be at the mainstore shortly if they are not there already. Here is your chance to pick them up if you missed them this month!

Happy shopping!

Hair Fair 2013 – Bandana Day

df-bandana_002

Location: The Botanical Gardens

Hey guys! Like I said in my last post, today is the last day of the Hair Fair, and it’s also Bandana Day! The 8th annual Hair Fair started on the 13th, so for two weeks, people have been shopping and at the same time, donating money to Wigs for Kids. What is Bandana Day, you ask? According to the Hair Fair website,

“The day we remove our hair to show we care, and wear the bandanas we have purchased at Hair Fair. There are bandana booths on all four sims, and each purchase of 50L is donated to Wigs for Kids. The community of Second Life all come together each year and create these lovely bandanas , and there are so many really beautiful ones this year. All created around the wonderful mesh bandana that Mel Vanbeeck created for us. “

I think every year a few designers stand out in making spectacular bandanas for this event – something that you can easily see in their store. This year my favorite bandana is from Zaara. The jeweled flower transformed the head accessory from a casual item to  something that can be dressed up.

As we wear our bandanas today with pride, we also remember the kids that go through so much in their lives. By wearing our bandanas, we hope to give these kids in some way enough confidence to be able to live their lives to the fullest.

color-block_004Ricielli sim, near the water

Hey guys -welcome back! I think I am getting the hang of blogging a bit more frequently.  Today I wanted to do something different and experiment with color blocking. What is color blocking, you ask?

We all remember the color wheel, right? We have our primary colors – red, yellow, and blue. Next comes the secondary colors – orange (mix of red and yellow), green (mix of yellow and blue), and purple (mix of blue and red). So image that these colors are on a wheel, with the secondary colors between the 2 primaries that make them up. So if we take yellow and purple, they are complementary to each other, and would make a high contrast look.

Purple and yellow right? Surprisingly, I didn’t have too many purple items that would be good for the look that I wanted to achieve. And I hardly have any yellow items in my inventory…yikes! I did like how the pink trench coat from Ricielli looked, so I decided to start from there. I took one of my favorite pairs of jeans (from Zaara) and tinted it purple, and added a splash of yellow color by using an old dress from Paradisis as my top under my coat. To add more yellow, I used yellow accessories that I think worked out nicely. Next time I will make sure to use more of the complementary color in my outfit…I think this would had totally rocked if I had like a long yellow sleeveless shirt with maybe a cropped jacket in a third color.

Until next time, guys!

In a Shopping Daze

Photos taken by Bunny Boxen

Hey guys! I’ve been having such a good time hanging with Bunny that I got her to take some photos of me with my new outfit. Have you ever had one of those days where you check out all the sales, hunts, and new releases that you can stand before passing out on your bed? I kinda had one of those days today…except that I’m on a stool 🙂

Let’s start from the top, literally…

The hair I’m wearing is from Clawtooth, and it’s currently at Collabor88 this month. In the past, I have had a hard time getting this hair to rez properly. My plurk friends suggested that I up the MeshMaxConcurrentRequests in debug settings to around 250 (mine was at 100). At 263, everything is a-okay. Thank goodness! I have bought non-mesh hair in the past from Clawtooth, so I felt bad for not being able to view the mesh hair properly.

Paradisis has had several new releases. This sweater is a gift at the store, but on sale there are several colors available. For those who have the “endowed” breasts, these sweaters also have the applicators for your usage. All of this makes me want to get boobs now…lol. The bubble jacket vest comes in several colors as well, and for a good price. I was tempted to buy more than one color, very easily. But I got black for right now 🙂

The boots I have on are from Hucci, also available at Collabor88 this month…for 88L each! Come on now…that’s a true bargain right there! Eboni has a new mainstore as well that is worth checking out. When I went there, I felt that it was easier to find everything – and I found some stuff that I didn’t know was at the store. The mesh items are on the main floor, and the non-mesh is on the upper level.

I guess we had too much fun today…

The Calico Diva

Calico dress by Meghindo’s

Hey guys! I had read Khitt‘s post on the Calico dress at Meghindo‘s, and I just had to get it! I have seen a lot of baroque fashion this season, and until now, I haven’t really been much of a fan.  But who wouldn’t feel like a diva in this dress ^^ The shoulder pads give the dress just the right amount of edge for a diva to look and feel great in it. Hmm…this could be my new lil’ black dress….maybe?

This is a partial mesh dress (yay!) that comes in several sizes. However, this dress does not come with alphas, so I had to wear a large so that my butt could fit into the dress 😀 My butt has gotten me in trouble before, and I have actually had to talk to designers about getting a different alpha to cover my derriere. Luckily this was not the case here.

Until next time!

52 Weeks of Color Challenge – Tea Green

Week Thirteen: Tea Green

March 25 – March 31

Welcome to Week 13 of the 52 Weeks of Color Challenge! Yes, I am happy to be caught up with the weeks again ^^ I thought I had a color all picked out, but when I tried on the dress, it was too dark. So, had to switch things up a bit…

I admit, this was a tricky color to find without buying something that others blogged already – for instance I believe Jane has mesh pants in this week’s color. I remembered that I had just gotten some pumps from Hucci that were only 80L (weekend sale I think), so then the rest of the outfit came along pretty quickly.

See you next time!

Monica at Fashion for Life

I realize that I’m late in talking about this, because Fashion for Life will be over on the 20th – yikes! But first, what is Fashion for Life?

After doing some research, it’s hard to talk about Fashion for Life without explaining its bigger picture, Relay for Life. Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s  fundraising activity, which offers people a chance to raise money for fighting cancer by doing a walk  a -thon. Second Life is unique in that various groups start fundraising as early as mid-March, all the way until mid-July. Then they too do a walk-a-thon around a set path, just like in real life (source). Fashion for Life, according to the website, is the fashion community’s way of contributing to the Relay for Life effort. For 10 days, people will have the chance to visit 10 sims ( 9 for shopping, 1 for entertainment) and see what lovely creations designers came up with according to the theme…

It’s Time….

This first creation comes from Tres Beau, called “Red Carpet” Royal. The lovely gown is one of the items Kimmera Madison chose to have all proceeds go to charity, via the FFL vendor.  I will admit that I do not own many items from this store, but when I saw the dress in a rich blue hue covered in lace, who could resist?

The second store I would like to share with you is called BoHo HoBo (I keep writing it “Hobo Boho – haha), created by Trill Zapatero.  My friend Mezzo told me about this store last year, and although it intrigued me, I never went to visit the store.  I was glad that I got a chance to stop by at this event.  According to the notecard that’s included with any purchase, “All proceeds from BoHo HoBo and Meena go to RAWA (the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan)”, which is cool – a store that’s  exclusively for charity.

What really caught my eye is this Crushed Velvet coat – the colors are colorful, but not overwhelming. I paired it with G *Field ‘s Long Cuff Boots “Will” in sepia (a FFL vendor), a racerback tank in grape (also from BoHo HoBo), and my old Zaara jeans.

I bought other items too, but I don’t think I can show you right now 😦 Maybe they will show up in another post, but we will see  ^^
