42 SL Groups Challenge!

sl-groups-meme_002How are you enjoying the summer?

Hey guys! I’m still not as inspired to blog about things. I did tweak my shape a bit, because I was tired of being just a wee bit too big for a S but M looks big on me around the waist.

Berry did a cool meme this week about Second Life groups, so I got semi-inspired to do a post ^^

1. Have you reached the 42 group limit?

No, but that’s because I leave 2 group slots open for temporary group slots.

 2.  Do you do a lot of group hopping to keep up with all the groups you want to stay a part of?

I don’t do a lot of it, but I do hop around if the store doesn’t have a subscriber group or if there is an event and the group will close to new membership at a certain point.

3.  What makes you want to join a group?

When I first started SL, I joined groups based on how much I liked their free items and group gifts. Also, if my friends had a “friends” or a “DJ” group, I would join that. After the groups expanded from 25 to 42, I was able to join groups that related to what I was interested in – blogging, modeling/fashion, as well as business related groups. So now, what makes me want to join a group is based on interest and whether it’s vital for me to be part of that group.

4.  A lot of store VIP groups have a group fee which you have to pay to join. How do you feel about paying group fees?

I don’t really like group fees. I remember when LL increased the number of group slots, a lot of stores suddenly had group fees. Some even put group fees and then gave no gifts or anything that would make me feel like a VIP group member. I feel if you aren’t offering anything extra, don’t make me pay $250-$300-$500-$1000L for empty group space so to speak.

Even though this could be answered in the next question, I’ll bring it up here to make a point. One of my good friends told me to join M.O.C.K Cosmetics, and I was like oh…but it’s $250L to join. However, she knew I had already owned some makeup from Mockie, and said there was a ton of makeup in the notices. So I said okay I’ll join, and I got like 10 items from notices alone. So just when I joined, the group fee paid for itself. Also, the chat is one of the most friendliest group of people that I have ever seen. That is an example of a good V.I.P. group.

5. Name a few groups that you are a part of that you feel everyone should look into joining and share your reasons behind that.

* Chop Zuey – I love their jewelry, and you get several quality pieces a month. Quality meaning that these are items that are sold in the store, and not just a rushed item that’s not fit to be sold. If you are female and don’t mind wearing men’s jewelry, then the gifts are even better. Even if you didn’t want to join their group, they have free items for non-members, but what Belle sometimes does is give 1-2 items of a set to non-members, and the rest to members. Don’t want to pay to get the whole set? Just join the group. The group fee is 350L to join.

* Artistry by Ejewelry store which has classic jewelry, and you get up to 3 customized jewelry sets for your rez day, which is sent out to everyone in the group. Right now there is a sale at the store, and it’s only 100L to join, so a very good time to join.

* Gos Boutique – you can get discounts on shoes, and excellent customer service. I see the group fee is 50L right now (it used to be free and then 500L when a group gift is available).

* Gizzaclothing store that has nice group gifts. I think it’s free…I remember at one time they tried to put a group price,  but changed it back. This is where I go when I want to give people a quick makeover – a lot of nice pieces that you can mix and match.

* M.O.C.K Cosmetics (for the reason I said above)

It’s hot!

food-fair_009Checkin’ the sights @ Baja Norte

Yes, I’m still alive, but barely. This month’s heatwave in my area has been very draining, to say the least. I have been drinking at least 100 oz of water a day (I know some people drink that all of the time and more but not me lol), and I still feel dehydrated.  Between that and feeling not creative, I had decided to take a short break from blogging. But some things started to happen, so I wanted to share with you what’s going on right now.

FdR

This is a project that I have been working on – Fashion de Rigueur. Basically, FdR is about helping people look their best in SL. Eventually I want to have workshops that focus on helping people with fashion basics…there are a lot of people with misinformation or little information on how to look their best. I’ll give an example. One of my friends swore that she couldn’t wear mesh, and after I gave her some pointers, she was able to fit into a medium size at Maitreya (gee is their sale still on? I have to go if it is).

In order to help launch FdR, right now we are taking applications for free makeovers. If you visit FdR inworld, you will be able to pick up an application there. Also, FdR is looking for workshop leaders to help run the workshops, so if you are interested just shoot me an IM inworld.

Jewelry: Donna Flora – PASQUALINA earrings and necklace, IRINA ring

The next thing I would like to bring up is is the Love Donna Flora event that starts on July 25th, and will end on August 11th. I was happy to participate in the Donna Flora A – Z project the other year, and even though I didn’t have the time to apply for official blogger for this event, I still wanted to give attention to this. We have so many charity events in Second Life – it’s nice when it benefits good people that we know personally or through their works and actions.

Currently there is a sale at Glam Affair – 100L for all older skins, which will be retired after the sale is over. The Glam Affair website doesn’t say when the sale will over, so I suggest you go ASAP. I remember when W&Y Hair was closing, it was supposed to be open for 2weeks, and instead it was only 2 days because the owner of the sim did not like the way the traffic was messing up the sim. I was right there…I could had grabbed the hairs! Anyways, the two skins I got (and recommend) are Lilith and Cassiopea. They both use the newer skin tones, so you won’t have to worry about not being able to match your skins to the latest products from other merchants.

Stay tuned for more shortly – I’ve been busy 😀

Meet Alexa

kanou-2_002Taken at frog’s garden

I have to say that this is one of my favorite outfits at the moment. The Alexa dress from Kanou comes in a variety of floral prints, and I had a hard time deciding between the white dress and the blue one.  But it’s good to try different colors, right? 🙂

The fan was a nice touch I thought…you know how warm it can get at times, so it looks better if you fan yourself with something classy vs. a sheet of paper or something haha.

Enjoy…until next time!

Why Do I Blog?

blogmeme_005

New meme started by Berry – Why Do I Blog? What’s my inspiration? Being a Second Life blogger is no easy task. Styling clothing, setting up and taking the photo, and presenting the information in a way that will be pleasing to both you and your audience are three separate skill sets. Those who are good at all three I would imagine will have a good amount of followers. That’s why I find it hilarious when …

1. People say bloggers are in it for the “free” items. To me, free is free – no strings attached, and no obligations to do anything for the creator in return. Bloggers who are in it for the free items only and do not plan to do right by the creators will find that they will get very few items, if any at all.

2. People compare blogging to making mesh items or other designing/building aspects in order to belittle the blogger and imply that their work is too easy to be valuable. I saw this conversation once and it made me feel disgust towards the creator who said it. Two totally different skill sets involved, and it goes to show how people take things like writing and photography for granted.

3. This one is sad actually…when people harass bloggers so much because they are jealous of their work that the bloggers stop blogging entirely.

So, why do I blog despite the negativity that some people have towards bloggers?

1. How long have you been blogging? I’ve been blogging on my current blog since April 2011.

2. Why did you start blogging? I love to write; don’t really write as much as I used to, though. When I started Second Life, I was fascinated with the fashion and lifestyle blogs geared towards SL. Eventually I realized that I had a lot of things I wanted to say, and having a blog would be my way of expressing my thoughts and ideas.

3. How many times a week do you post an entry? I try to aim for at least once a week. That is what I promised myself for my goals for blogging this year. Sometimes I blog more; sometimes less depending on my time and how much creative juices I’ve got going at the time.

4. How many different blogs do you read on a regular basis? I love wordpress blogs because you can get a subscription of the blog, and every time a new post is made, the link gets delivered to your inbox. That comes in handy with SL blogs…I probably have at least a dozen blogs I follow that way. Then I bookmark various blogs that I like reading, geared towards living a healthy lifestyle through your diet and exercise. Some real life fashion stuff too. It’s hard to give an exact number lol.

5. Do you comment on other people’s blogs? Yes, if I feel I have something significant to say. I’m actually working with someone to start an initative to comment more on people’s blogs. It’s a great confidence boost, and it makes you feel that people care what you have to say on a certain topic.

6. Do you keep track of how many visitors you have? Yes – I like seeing the numbers go up, and try to gauge what topics people seem to like the most.

7. Did you ever regret a post that you wrote? No – I think about what I want to say before posting. Even if I have different feelings now from when I wrote a certain post, I don’t regret it because that was a snapshot of a single moment in time.

8. Do you think your readers have a true sense of who you are based on your blog? I would like to think so! That is why I try to talk in my posts instead of just snapping photos and calling it a day.

9. Do you blog under your real name? No, my blog is under my Second Life name. Even when I had a RL personal blog, I always used an alias. When I first started going online, someone I knew took my personal info and put it on a dating site without my knowledge. That single incident has had a major impact on how and who I choose to share my info with.

10. Are there topics that you would never blog about? Yeah, I would imagine so. Even though I feel my blog is a reflection of me, I feel you have to always consider your audience when writing. Some topics just aren’t meant to be put on a blog geared towards a general audience. What I may find to be acceptable, others may not. However, I am not afraid of controversy, so if I have something to say, I have no problems talking about it on my blog.

11. What is the theme/topic of your blog? Moni’s World in Second Life – heavily influenced by fashion (I am always looking for the next sale haha), with a dash of other aspects. For instance, I LOVE SL food, and I hear a food event is coming up this summer. Guess who will be looking to blog about it? This girl right here ^^

12. Do you have more than one blog? If so, why? No, I don’t have another blog at this time. I have been asked to maintain a couple of blogs, and I have talked with other people about collaborating on blogs. I have entertained the idea of doing a blog speficially geared towards fashion, but taking photos is so hard for me 😦 Then you have to blog it, etc etc…ain’t nobody got time for all of that lol.

13. What have you found to be the benefits of blogging? My biggest benefit is to see my growth as a blogger/stylist/photographer through my blogging, and to see the results in comments, hits, and subscribers. I enjoy meeting both designers and fellow bloggers in my ventures, and I like having a place to call my own.

14. So, why do you continue to blog? As long as I feel like I have something to say and share with others, I will continue to blog. Plus, it’s great having a record of what I do in Second Life. Even if SL suddenly went poof, and I lost all of my logs and inventory, I will still have my blog to capture some moments of my Second Life.

Spring @ Meghindo’s

Spring Flower @ Neva River

Hey guys! I picked up Meg’s group gift from the notices the other day, and I really liked what she had for us this month. So I decided to go back to Neva River to take pictures. Normally I would include landmarks, but since this sim won’t be open to the public for much longer, I don’t see the point in crediting it.

megglam_008

Spring Flower is a blouse paired with high-waist shorts; a solid golden beige top and a patterned bottom. Doesn’t it look like a bodysuit? The bottom part reminded me of the Tabula Rasa jewelry from Chop Zuey, so I added the earrings and necklace to the outfit, along with some other pieces.

megglam_011

The Mystery of Owls ring is on sale now at Chop Zuey. All proceeds will go towards the Wold Wildlife Federation until May 31, 2013. I got the ring for free at the “Don’t Hurt Me!” event on Saturday, which served to raise awareness towards animal cruelty.

See you next time guys!

A Belated Valentine’s Greeting

vday_003Happy Valentine’s Day!

Hey guys! I just wanted to wish you all a happy belated Valentine’s ^^ I was planning on showing a nice sexy number to celebrate, but just wasn’t in the mood :p I did manage to pick up a few gifts and sales along the way.

Drift is having a sale right now – 99L on all purple, pink, and red items. Hence, the nice new shirt that I am wearing now 🙂 Also, Gos Boutique has a lovely pair of shoes as a group gift now at the store.

Want more sales and gifts? Then check out this pinterest link here.

I tried to get Snowflake in the photo, but he’s nowhere to be found. I swear ever since I moved, you can never find this cat anymore. At the old house, he would always be up under me. Figures…
