Are you a Second Life fashionista?

I decided to make a basic guideline of what you should have as a fashionista. For those who are in specific hobbies and occupations in SL, not all of the items will apply to you. I could talk for hours on each point that I have mentioned here. My point in making this list is if you don’t already do or have these things, get to it! If you already do, feel free to share this with someone.

Cyber Monday sales in Second Life!

Hey guys – I hope you have been taking advantage of all of the sales in Second Life! I decided to show you what I got today (so far). Today I am featuring items from The Annex and Exposeur Poses.

Cyber Monday 2015 - The Annex - Exposeur - Second Life

According to the notecard that I received this morning, “Today has the lowest prices ever at Exposeur, a whopping 75% off ALL props and poses, plus L$25 gachas!  This is the perfect time to stock up on everything you’ll need or want for awesome photos!  “

I found out about The Annex from Flickr – a number of stores have items out for 50% off. Something about the dress made me want to get it – the mermaid tail, perhaps?

If you miss out on Cyber Monday finds, you always have the 12 days of Savings – an initiative by Linden Lab and some of the top selling merchants on marketplace to bring us all of the good deals!

Relaxation Time!

Don’t fall asleep in the tub!

After a long day, how do you relax? Some people like to take a long hot bath or shower. I like using scented products, especially the ones at Lush. But Lush is kinda pricey, especially the soaps.

Others like to relax with a glass of wine, or perhaps something a bit stronger…winks. I have to say that I don’t drink a whole lot in RL, so it’s more of a treat rather than a relaxation method. But I do like vodka based drinks 🙂

This is my favorite thing to do – go online and read, play games, watch tv and movies, talk to people, etc. Of course, sometimes other people behind their computers can cause stress, but all I have to do is log off and do something else 🙂

What are some things that you do that relaxes you?

Always Donna Flora

donna-flora-final_001GIORGIA  by Donna Flora

When I read on Plurk that the creator of Donna Flora, Squinternet Larnia (Giulia) had passed away, it saddened me. Even though I never met her in Second Life, I felt like I had gotten to know her in some way ever since the Donna Flora A to Z project.

Maybe I’m just projecting because I lost someone close to me not too long ago, but I feel it’s a shame that we lose talented people so early. I always said to my friends the youngest I think people should move on is 80 years old, and that’s if they are ill. Of course, no one should have to suffer for years on end just to make it to that age…I guess what I am saying is that I wish we were all happy and healthy so we can enrich each others’ lives for a long time.

I am happy for Giulia because she was able to leave her mark on the world in many ways. She will be remembered by her loved ones. Thanks to youtube, the world can listen to her sing. And because of her store, everyone in Second Life will be able to have a part of her spirit always.

I had heard that Giulia had wanted Donna Flora to stay open as long as SL was around. I really hope that happens. I don’t know, maybe all of the future sales can go towards a foundation set up in her name? That would be pretty cool I think.

Hair Fair 2013 – Bandana Day

Location: The Botanical Gardens

Hey guys! Like I said in my last post, today is the last day of the Hair Fair, and it’s also Bandana Day! The 8th annual Hair Fair started on the 13th, so for two weeks, people have been shopping and at the same time, donating money to Wigs for Kids. What is Bandana Day, you ask? According to the Hair Fair website,

“The day we remove our hair to show we care, and wear the bandanas we have purchased at Hair Fair. There are bandana booths on all four sims, and each purchase of 50L is donated to Wigs for Kids. The community of Second Life all come together each year and create these lovely bandanas , and there are so many really beautiful ones this year. All created around the wonderful mesh bandana that Mel Vanbeeck created for us. “

I think every year a few designers stand out in making spectacular bandanas for this event – something that you can easily see in their store. This year my favorite bandana is from Zaara. The jeweled flower transformed the head accessory from a casual item to  something that can be dressed up.

As we wear our bandanas today with pride, we also remember the kids that go through so much in their lives. By wearing our bandanas, we hope to give these kids in some way enough confidence to be able to live their lives to the fullest.

It’s hot!

food-fair_009Checkin’ the sights @ Baja Norte

Yes, I’m still alive, but barely. This month’s heatwave in my area has been very draining, to say the least. I have been drinking at least 100 oz of water a day (I know some people drink that all of the time and more but not me lol), and I still feel dehydrated.  Between that and feeling not creative, I had decided to take a short break from blogging. But some things started to happen, so I wanted to share with you what’s going on right now.

This is a project that I have been working on – Fashion de Rigueur. Basically, FdR is about helping people look their best in SL. Eventually I want to have workshops that focus on helping people with fashion basics…there are a lot of people with misinformation or little information on how to look their best. I’ll give an example. One of my friends swore that she couldn’t wear mesh, and after I gave her some pointers, she was able to fit into a medium size at Maitreya (gee is their sale still on? I have to go if it is).

In order to help launch FdR, right now we are taking applications for free makeovers. If you visit FdR inworld, you will be able to pick up an application there. Also, FdR is looking for workshop leaders to help run the workshops, so if you are interested just shoot me an IM inworld.

Jewelry: Donna Flora – PASQUALINA earrings and necklace, IRINA ring

The next thing I would like to bring up is is the Love Donna Flora event that starts on July 25th, and will end on August 11th. I was happy to participate in the Donna Flora A – Z project the other year, and even though I didn’t have the time to apply for official blogger for this event, I still wanted to give attention to this. We have so many charity events in Second Life – it’s nice when it benefits good people that we know personally or through their works and actions.

Currently there is a sale at Glam Affair – 100L for all older skins, which will be retired after the sale is over. The Glam Affair website doesn’t say when the sale will over, so I suggest you go ASAP. I remember when W&Y Hair was closing, it was supposed to be open for 2weeks, and instead it was only 2 days because the owner of the sim did not like the way the traffic was messing up the sim. I was right there…I could had grabbed the hairs! Anyways, the two skins I got (and recommend) are Lilith and Cassiopea. They both use the newer skin tones, so you won’t have to worry about not being able to match your skins to the latest products from other merchants.

Stay tuned for more shortly – I’ve been busy 😀

Carmen’s Escape

carmen_003Carmen’s Escape – taken at The Rose Theatre and Art Gallery

Hey guys! Belle from Chop Zuey came out with a terrific group gift, so I wanted to share it with you all.  As some of you may know, recently Chop Zuey opened up their sky boutique at the Chop Zuey sim, with a nice variety of dresses. When I went to visit, my reaction was, “How does she do it?”  I won’t show you any photos of the build – you will just have to go see for yourselves 😉

Carmen’s Escape in Ocean is the current group gift at Chop Zuey. I’m happy because blue is my favorite color, and how many stores do you know give out fabulous clothes AND matching jewelry? Carmen’s Escape comes with the dress, gloves, fascinator, jeweled belt, necklace, and earrings. The glove details are excellent – both jewels and feathers make up the gloves. The accessories would look great in a mix-and-match with other outfits.

Until next time – happy shopping!

My low-scripted outfit

Walking around @ The HUB

Hey guys! Today I want to talk about something that baffles me when it’s time for shopping events. Whenever event organizers place a limit on the number of scripts that visitors can have while on the sim, there is always a big uproar. “Why do I have to shop naked at the event?” “I guess they don’t need any sales…I’ve been trying to get in for hours!” I have personally seen people strip down to nothing but the hair (that has over 100+ scripts), and not know what is wrong. I try not to have on more than 50 scripts at any given time. It helps me have a better grid experience (and helps the grid as well). Someone once asked me how was that even possible (because everyone knows how much I love jewelry). So, let’s see if I can help you guys dress for success (so to speak).

See the outfit that I have in the photo? Only 9 scripts.

[12:23:47] #Firestorm LSL Bridge v2.3: ‘Monica Querrien’ [9/9] running scripts. 528Kb consumed for 0.026384ms of cpu time.

I know you are saying, “WHAAAAT! But you have on jewelry and hair and stuff…” – yes I do.  My shoes (which aren’t shown in the photo) have 2 scripts each, my AO has 2 scripts, and I assume my mesh hair has 3 scripts.

1. Always make sure you are wearing the most up-to-date items from the merchant. For instance, N-Core recently retired a bunch of shoes, and had a sale for them. I have some of the shoes that were being retired, and when I looked at the script count, I got something like 100+ extra scripts.  If your current pair of shoes have a lot of scripts, and there isn’t an option to delete them (after you’ve made a copy, of course)…please get rid of them. There are too many free/cheaply priced shoes that look great and don’t make you crash every time you try to tp somewhere. I would even go as far to say if your footwear have a ton of scripts, just ditch them, because today’s shoes don’t have a lot of scripts at all.

2. If you love your flexi hair, keep in mind that it can have a lot of scripts. So what you want to do is, make your adjustments so that it fits your head, make a copy, wear the copy and then delete the scripts from the copy.

3. Jewelry, jewelry, jewelry…has the potential to have a LOT of scripts, especially when you wear sets.  Some scripts can’t be deleted – for instance, the sparkly effect that some stones in rings and necklaces have (no, not the “bling”)? I doubt you can delete the scripts from those. Chop Zuey, for instance, has some nice statement rings that I love…but they run at 40 scripts. So, whenever I really want to wear the ring, I tone down on my other scripts. One time I bought some older items on sale from Earthstones, and I was over 200 scripts…after I followed the steps I mentioned in #2, I was good to go.

4. HUDs/AOs – if you are going to a high-traffic area, be conservative as to what you choose to wear. When I invited my friends to a fashion show, I helped them take off excessive scripts. One of my friends said she uses a HUD radar that worked better than what was currently being offered in the SL viewers, and it was like 50-60 scripts. Again, for everyday travels it’s not that bad, but hosts at fashion shows ask everyone to take off any unnecessary items that run scripts because it uses up the sim’s resources.

5. Clothing/clothing accessories that have scripted menus for adjusting can have many scripts. Again, make a copy of everything after you have adjusted it and delete the scripts from the items. If you can’t delete, it’s time to upgrade/update!

If you follow these tips, you should be set. Now you know my secret to looking fabulous, yet low scripted. Some people have mentioned ARC (avatar rendering cost), but that does not affect the sim, just the user who is trying to render the items on their computer.

Seven SL Facts About Me

I love nails!

You know, if you think about something enough, it has a tendency to manifest itself one way or another. For a while now, I have been thinking on how to express more thoughts on my blog instead of just putting up photos of my latest purchases and stylings.  Then Strawberry Singh came  up with a fun meme about sharing some facts about yourself in Second Life. So, let’s start with..

SL Fact # 1: I don’t like being bored in SL, so I will always find something to do. On the rare occasion that I don’t have anything to do, I get a lot of “Omg! YOU’RE bored?” and “No way!” comments.

On the flip side, I get irritated when people ask me whether or not I’m busy (it’s become a 4-lettered word for me), because I feel they equate that to me not having time to spend with them when I say I’m doing xyz. Depending on what I’m doing, I can easily put it aside and do something else. But if I feel like I’m being sized up based on the fact that I actually have something to do, I can get defensive. There was a time where I went from a fast-pace SL lifestyle to having nothing to do at all. The abrupt change took its toll when I didn’t have anything to do or planned, and no one would message me first because they all assumed I was busy. It was a very lonely time in SL for me 😦

SL Fact # 1.5: Especially because of that experience mentioned previously, I have no problems messaging my friends to see how they are and what they are up to in SL.

SL Fact #2:  I need a place to call my own in SL.  I tend to like beachfront properties ^^ I was three weeks old when I had my first residence at Noobia, and they are still around after taking a year off. The brief periods where I did not have (or felt like I had) a place to call my own made me unsettled and restless. I actually got a bit depressed at the end of last year before I decided to change my living situation. Never gave it a second thought after that 🙂

Relaxing outside with a glass of wine

SL Fact #3:  I love jewelry so much that I’m in 4 different groups inworld for it.

SL Fact #4 : I love driving vehicles – jet skis and cars are my favorites. Right now I am looking at the Felgo cars. But I need one that will hold passengers…it’s not fun to tell your friends, “Sorry – not enough room for you 😛 ” It wouldn’t be so bad if it could hold like 3-4 people + driver, but just one passenger? That’s just mean…

SL Fact #5 : I feel odd when I don’t have on nails or some sort of stiletto heels.

SL Fact #6 : I love prim food and drinks ^^ especially food that gives out items that you can eat. My favorite is my bottle of Fremont wine…for a long time I would sit out on the patio and relax with glasses of wine as I did other things (either in world or on the internet). I remember my old boss invited me for breakfast at her place, and it was fun talking and relaxing over a nice meal.

Adjusting my mirrors while hoping I don’t get blindsided by a wayward driver

SL Fact #7  : I have a tendency to go randomly afk, and I get in trouble at times with people who are sensitive to time gaps in conversation. I never got why people are so upset with this. Personally, I do not know what is on your side of the screen. So as long as we aren’t in a business meeting or something, I don’t sweat it if you get back to me when you come back. One of my friends has a great profile pick on this:

RL & AFK Happens

As much as I would love to be readily available to respond to your Im sometimes it may not be possible.  RL is crazy and unpredictable so I may not have the chance to set my busy/away status or even give you a brb.  So if I do not respond immediately please don’t take offense, I am not ignoring you.  Rl has just decided to interrupt and RL always comes first.  If this is unacceptable to you, you know where the remove button is on your friends list.

Did you make it this far? Yay! I added pictures so it wouldn’t seem too long…plus since I haven’t blogged in a bit I wanted to make it up to you guys 🙂 That’s it from me though…see you soon!

A Walk in the Park

Relaxing in the park at MAYFAIR

Hey guys! I just finished shopping at the coldLogic sale (last day for 50% off the entire store!), and I decided to take a stroll on the MAYFAIR sim. I managed not to visit any clothing stores (for now anyway :P), but I do like to shop mainly when I come here.

After snowstorm Nemo  had me shoveling snow for over an hour yesterday (why did they have to name it after the cute fish in Finding Nemo, anyway?), it’s nice to be able to dress fashionably warm on Second Life…with NO SNOW!

The chea leggings & yapple shirt from coldLogic, along with the Stagioni boots from Maitreya makes me feel snuggly warm inside. I really like how coldLogic makes realistic textures, both the shirt and leggings makes me want to run my hands along the material. I guess that’s why the store has never been empty since the sale started ^^

As for jewelry, I just went with neutral tones that would complement my current outfit. Some people will just take a jewelry set and wear everything that’s there, which is okay. But for instance, if I would had done that with my Donna Flora ring, the result would had been a casual outfit with over-the-top jewelry. Don’t get me wrong…I love my statement jewelry….but that’s too much of a statement 🙂

Okay – that’s all from me for now…stay warm guys!
