Hey everyone! If you haven’t heard, Luxe Box has released its second subscription box to its group members. For those who do not know what Luxe Box is, for 1500 L you get access to 12 designers’ new releases. Even though you do not get to see what you are getting beforehand, these are all quality designers. For those who are used to buying fatpacks of items, this SL subscription box will be right up your alley. If you are the type to buy 1-2 items at a time, the 1500L can be your monthly indulgence. There is always at least one “WOW!” item, and if you are a fan of one of the participating stores, it can be a real treat. You can join (or rejoin) on July 1st, and all past Luxe boxes will be on sale for 2000L (for active subscribers).
I think he was trying to take me somewhere…I had asked him his name so that I could add it to the hud, and then all of sudden he started to fly…*winks*
Skybox: Scarlet Creative – Alaouite Skybox
Hair: Lamb – Prove It
Dress: Tee*fy Sabrina Dress
Boots: Reign Estee Heels
Bear (sparkles not included): MishMish – Beary ice Cream
I had fun taking this photo after I walked around the skybox. I actually used the unpacking animation from Exposeur (who is having a closing sale until the end of June), and made the box transparent so I could still use the pose.
Okay – on to my take on the June Luxe Box!
Here is a slideshow where you can quickly look at what the Luxe Box had to offer. Once you have familiarized yourself with the items, read on!
- Blueberry – Lover Skirts
I think Blueberry was the first one that I opened, because the group notices had stated that something was wrong with the hud. It worked out because by the time I had gotten set up with Foxes’ item and looking through Reign’s huds for the boots, the owner of Blueberry had already sent a new hud through the notices.
You are able to change the color of the skirt, button, and panties via the HUD. You can also add/remove the panties as well. I thought it was cute – something nice to supplement a casual top or to make your business casual outfit a bit sexier. Blueberry has sizes for Belleza Venus, Freya & Isis, Slink Physique and Hourglass, Maitreya, and Standard size XXS-L.
- Reign – Estee Heels
Reign’s shoes were intriguing, and I wouldn’t expect anything less. They are buckled thigh high gladiator stiletto heels (wow that was a mouthful ^^). I took a picture of the back so you can see how ingenious the design is. It looks like you would be able to just take off the thigh attachment from the front, but it is actually part of the shoe.
There are three different huds for the Estee heels, and they are color matched for also Blueberry and Foxes’ items. I did try to match the yellow from the Foxes’ bikini, but for some reason it didn’t seem to go well. Probably because of the different materials used – it happens. You can also take the studs off and on using the Reign hud – I illustrate both looks in my pictures. It gives the boot two distinctive looks.
Reign has sizes for Belleza Venus, Freya & Isis, Slink Physique and Hourglass, and Maitreya. And yes, if you like to wear Slink feet with your Maitreya body (like I do), you will have to use your Maitreya feet for this shoe.
- Foxes – Tassel Kinis
These were cute – I liked the texture of the bikinis. Their color hud not only allows you to change the top and the bottom, but the tassels as well. So if you wanted to have a red, white, and blue bikini, look no further. I was happy to see that Foxes had Maitreya and Slink hourglass sizes. Last box they only had Maitreya sizing, which upset people because they are normally known for doing more than one size.
- Lamb – Prove It (hair)
With the departure of Magika from Luxe Box (whose controversy with an instore full release of the hair style used in Luxe Box called to attention whether items were truly exclusive), Lamb was welcomed into the Luxe Box family.
I like the idea of the style, but I find when hair is in your face, it kinda limits your camera angles. You will either look great, or you will look awkward. And then sometimes when your AO moves you around, you may have some less than desirable moments. As a blogger, it’s easier when you don’t have to plan outfits and poses around hair. Most likely, I would had not bought this hair had it been an instore release.
There were some issues with the hair that I heard talk about…something with the hair looking weird without a hair base when it comes to mesh heads (as you can see I am wearing one, but I do not wear a mesh head), as well as something funky in the back. When you look at the hair from the back, it looks like parts of it is missing. Lamb did send a fix, with the message:
“I fixed the issues with weight painting on the back of the head. I also made a notecard (in the package) to address any alpha hair base issues. Make sure to open your huds to get the updated hair. You might want to delete the old hair folder (if you have it) before opening this new one. I hope you all enjoy! Sorry for the inconvenience!”
- Tee*fy – Sabrina Bralet & Sabrina Dress
Tee*fy had a cute bralet top that would be great in a mix & match combo. Depending on how well you can layer it, you can wear it under a jacket or sweater, or drape a shawl over it. The cuts on both sides of the dress adds a twist to the typical babydoll dress. For those who feel the dress is a bit short, you can wear it with leggings or fitted pants.
I was disappointed to see that Tee*fy did not have other sizes besides the Maitreya size. Even though I own the body, I can see how those with other bodies could be disappointed that they would not be able to wear clothing from this brand this time around. For the May box, Tee*fy offered Slink as well as Maitreya sizing.
- Moon – California (hair)
I always like seeing Moon hair because they have a glitter version of every shade of hair, and you do not have to pay separately for it. I think I would wear this hair for a specific outfit style…it’s one of those hairs that I would not wear every day, but would buy it if would help me complete my look.
- Tres Blah – Carolina Dress
What I thought was good about this dress was that it looks like someone put a festive top and leather skirt together and fashioned it into a dress. This is what they teach us at modeling academy – try to avoid wearing items straight out of the rack (so to speak). One of the issues with that is when fitmesh prevents us from layering clothing on top of each other. So something like this could work. The only thing that I wished this outfit had was a hud where you could change the colors. It has 10 different combinations, but having the hud would give you more control over which colors you used. And it would be less items in inventory too (cause as we all know we need to delete SOMETHING lol).
Tres Blah has sizes for Slink Hourglass & Physique, Maitreya, and Standard sizing XXS – M
- Stories&Co. by Flowey – Lisa Top
I feel that this is a versatile top…you can dress it up or down, and still look great. I like the little flare that it has at the bottom – I can see that coming in handy when it comes to wearing bottoms with it. I liked the color palettes too – the yellow and green are colors that I would not normally buy, but would be great to experiment with.
Stories & Co. by Flowey comes in Maitreya, and Slink Physique & Hourglass sizes.
- Erratic – Natasha monokini
This monokini has a lot of cuts, giving it a sexy look. I can see wearing this with a skirt and it would make a great outfit for the club. This bathing suit comes in 8 colors, and is hud operated.
Erratic is fitted for the Maitreya Lara body.
- MishMish – Beary ice Cream
Both of MishMish’s items for May and June made me feel like I was given a cool rare from a gacha machine. There was a Beary that I could hold, and a Beary that moved with me as I walked. You can also change the color of the Beary base. I showed the companion HUD in my pictures, and as you can see you can even name your Beary. Even though I was waiting for him to tell me his name…I think I am getting closer. Soon….
- tarte – Mina poolside collection
I did a gyazo animation of me sitting on the lounge chair for tarte – it’s a quick way of looking at one of the animations. As you can see, the lights on the umbrella actually light up, hence me using a semi-lit windlight so you can see the glow better. I think the poolside collection is a quick way to update your house for the summer…can swap out a few pieces here and there and make your backyard/patio deck area summer 2016 ready. The poolside collection does have cushion and pillow texture change – 2 color patterns each.
- Scarlet Creative – Alaouite Skybox prefab
I loved the skybox. If you look in my RL tab inworld, you will see a old picture of me sitting in one of Melino Style (now defunct) builds. This build gave me reminiscent vibes as I walked around, opening the doors and walking through the archways. The Alaouite also has a swimming pool that has both solo and couple animations. For 161 LI, this is quite a find.
In the documentation provided in the folder, it states that the build is scaled for realistically sized avatars (up to 6 foot 7 inches). When I was walking around, I was 6’8″ (mainly because I had on Reign shoes). Normally I am 7 feet tall in heels. The current size of the build was okay, even though I noticed making the turns while walking seemed kinda tight. When I made it a bit larger (around 195 LI), it was a lot easier. I know there are some who recommend changing the camera angles so you will be able to cam and walk around in smaller builds. I don’t really like using FPS type of views for Second Life – it makes me feel semi – claustrophobic and like I have no peripheral view.
Before I end my review, I would like to address something that happened to me a few days ago. I expressed my sentiments inworld in a group chat (not Luxe Box – an affiliated store’s chat) about being disappointed that Tee*fy only provided one size for this month’s Luxe Box. This is what I said exactly:
[07:44] ℳøηї (monica.querrien): I was disappointed that teefy made two items but this month only had one size. I can wear the items, but someone who has a different body who was able to wear the stuff last month wouldnt be able to this month
Now, let’s look at what I said in detail.
1. I was disappointed. I wasn’t mad, angry, complaining, or bashing anyone.
2. There was only one size provided, as opposed to more than one size from a previous box. As someone stated later on in the group, if a store is known for creating for multiple sizes, one would assume that they would for this subscription box. And as I added,
[08:03] ℳøηї (monica.querrien): and to add xxxx…if a creator made for more than one size before and then for this box they didnt…and you like wearing their clothing…you can be disappointed. You can still get the box for the other stores but you can be disappointed that you will not be able to wear the items from that particular store.
- I can wear the item. Yes, because the only mesh body I have is Maitreya. I got the body at the end of January 2015.
- I showed concern for those who were able to wear the store item’s last month would not be able to wear this month, even though we paid more for the box.
So tell me what warranted the following comments?
“if you check the website, it tells you what each creator is making.. well, what sizes and bodies they make for”
“if you didnt read it and joined then thats your own disapppoint not designers”
When I stated repeatedly that my point was not being addressed:
“not missing anything your complaining a store didnt do other sizes”
“its exactly the point .. know what your joining before joining dont be dissapointed later when the info was given”
“but theres no point to express it everyone had a chance know upfront itd be maitreya lol itll pointless”
“Exactly, idk why people get mad, for the cost you got several things that cost way over what you paid for the box, I dont always like all of it, but one fatpack pays for itself”
“if you join something, dont read info .. then you pretty much yes erase your right to say im dissapointed .. cos you choose not to be informed”
“she didnt read the webpage that said maitreya only”
So the message to me was, I can’t/didn’t read, and because I couldn’t read, I had no right to complain or voice my disappointment. Eventually other people who saw my point chimed in, and things calmed down. The same thing happened on Plurk when I went to talk about how the inworld group reacted to my comment: https://www.plurk.com/p/looyov
Once again, the conversation went off-topic because people focused on my example, and not my topic. It brought me to the point of feeling I had to clarify and defend myself as to why I said I was disappointed, which led to being told that group chats were not suitable for expressing my feelings. As more people who understood what I was trying to say commented, things calmed down. So after these incidents occurred in a very similar way, I realized that voicing my feelings resulted in something that went WAY beyond a store not carrying certain sizes. To me, this deserves a blog post all on its own, because it has nothing to do with Luxe Box. The only reason why I bring this up now is that when I write my other piece, I don’t want “this” to happen again, for it will weaken my message.
In conclusion, I have to say that I liked the skybox from Scarlet Creative the best, followed by the shoes from Reign, and the skirt from Blueberry. These 3 items alone make the 1500L worth it. The rest are like bonuses pilling up on each other to create an overall good box.
Thanks for reading! What did you think of this month’s Luxe Box? If you got it, was it worth it? If not, do you regret not getting it? Leave your comments below!
